Braves prospect JR Ritchie is on an insane run to end the season

Braves #2 ranked prospect JR Ritchie is on an absurd run to end the season, which continued on Sunday. The 22-year-old tossed six more innings of scoreless baseball against the Durham Bulls, allowing just a couple of hits and three walks to go with four strikeouts.

The former first-round selection now has not allowed a run in his last three starts (17.0 innings), striking out 22 batters over that span. Going even further back, he has scoreless outings in four of his last five starts and now owns a 2.79 ERA over 48.1 innings for the Stripers.

Ritchie is unlikely to get the call this season due to the fact that he’s already thrown 128.2 innings. His previous career-high was 49.2 innings after returning from Tommy John surgery. That said, the Braves really couldn’t have hoped for anything better from him in 2025. He began the season in High-A Rome and worked all the way up to AAA Gwinnett, where things appear to already be too easy for his skill set.

All signs point to Ritchie making his MLB debut in 2026, and with an impressive Spring Training, there’s a small chance he even begins the season on the Braves Opening Day roster.
