Falcons: Raheem Morris has ominous comments about Kyle Pitts’ injury

Offseason training activities are underway in Flowery Branch, but there have been a couple of notable absences for the Falcons, namely Kirk Cousins and Kyle Pitts.

Cousins’ absence hasn’t been explained, whether it’s the team’s or the veteran’s choice. However, it seems like it’s a damned if he does or damned if he doesn’t situation. When he showed up to Atlanta’s voluntary workouts, fans were irate. Now, fans are similarly dissatisfied that he’s not present.

To me, it’s a nothingburger. That isn’t the case for Kyle Pitts, though. His absence was explained, with a report from James Palmer clarifying that Pitts wasn’t missing from the facility but rather that a foot issue kept him off the field.

It wasn’t a well-received explanation for Falcons fans, who have grown tired of the discourse surrounding Pitts’ struggles. Whether it’s injuries or poor quarterback play, Falcons fans are sick of the excuses, even if they’re warranted.

We got an ominous update from Raheem Morris, and it probably is falling on deaf ears. Atlanta’s head coach told reporters that Pitts is, in fact, at Flowery Branch, but we won’t see him on the field. The team is “being extremely cautious” with whatever injury the tight end is dealing with, because Morris also elected not to confirm what is hampering him.

Kyle Pitts is entering the final year of his rookie contract. The Falcons have taken calls on potential trades, but nothing has materialized. I assume because of Atlanta’s asking price.

Nevertheless, Falcons coaches and executives have talked about Pitts’ attention to detail and consistency as keys to helping him realize his full potential. The highest-drafted tight end in league history has undoubtedly been a disappointment since the Falcons took him 4th overall in 2021.

It seems like Pitts is dealing with an injury that is at least somewhat serious, and if it hampers his 2025 campaign in any way, I can all but guarantee the Falcons will not be bringing him back in 2026.

This is a big deal. Foot injuries, especially for those who are 6-foot-6 and have to run and gun, can linger. Hopefully, Kyle Pitts can put whatever this is behind him before the start of training camp. It might seem trivial to miss these reps, but the Falcons want Pitts to be more consistently detailed, and this is the time of the year when that comes together.
