Georgia’s marshes, wetlands, and rivers are often regarded as some of the most stunning landscapes on Earth.

To immerse yourself in their beauty, look no further than the paintings of Stephen Kasun. Kasun’s impressionist works capture Savannah’s natural vibrancy with textured brushstrokes and vivid colors. From the dappled light filtering through historic streets to sunsets over serene waters, his pieces evoke moments of dynamism and stillness. Whether it’s the aftermath of a summer rain or a quiet scene set in a local café, Kasun’s art transforms the ordinary into something profoundly rich. His faceless, universal figures allow viewers to focus on the unmistakable beauty of Savannah’s landscapes. They are a testament to how the city continues to inspire artists.
Originally from Cincinnati, Kasun’s art took a new direction after moving to Savannah.
He shifted his attention from figures to the study of sunlight, shadows, and nature itself. “The sun and natural light became more compelling subjects than the figure,” he shares. This evolution led him to experiment with palette knives, adding depth and texture to his work. “Using oils and palette knives allows me to create vibrant, impasto layers that reflect true colors. It’s a challenging but thrilling process, and I hope that energy resonates through my paintings.”
Kasun’s art is featured in galleries across the nation, but Savannah’s City Market is special to him. “I love the inclusive, inspiring atmosphere at City Market,” he says. “Collectors and visitors from all over the world drop by, offering fresh perspectives on my work and the beauty of Savannah. Being surrounded by talented local artists also keeps me motivated.”
