Falcons: Michael Penix Jr. involved in scuffle at joint practice with Titans

The Falcons had their second joint practice with the Titans on Wednesday after dominating Tennessee on Tuesday. This one, however, was a little more intense. There were several scuffles throughout, including one that involved Falcons starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

The scuffle occurred after Penix hit wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud on a deep ball that would have resulted in a touchdown in a real game.

The Titans are a bad football team with a lot of rebuilding pieces, and by all accounts, the Falcons made them look like one throughout joint practices. Nobody likes to get embarrassed, and because they couldn’t stop Atlanta, the Titans resulted in some extracurricular activity.

Thankfully, Michael Penix came out of the mix unscathed. In fact, he had no problem letting everybody know that, even though he’s a quarterback, he doesn’t mind a little pushing and shoving.

“I don’t really do a lot of talking unless someone does it to me…they probably looked at me as just a QB…I’m from Tampa,” Penix said, via Fox 5’s Miles Garrett.

“They had a lot of word on practice, so I gave them some word,” Penix continued.

The theme of the preseason has been energy. The Falcons have been bringing it on both sides of the ball since training camp begun. It doesn’t matter if they are practicing themselves or another team. There’s no question Michael Penix earned a little extra cachet from his teammates today, and I would imagine most fans are feeling the same way. A new era is beginning in Atlanta.
