Your Georgia Bulldogs return to action tonight in Omaha in a loser goes home rematch with the Texas Longhorns.
The Bulldogs couldn’t recover from a sloppy, three run first inning last night and a late rally fizzled as they fell 4–3 to the blazing hot Oklahoma Sooners. Now, West Johnson’s squad looks to put that behind them in a must win losers bracket contest with the ‘Horns.
If you’d told me that two games into the Series the Dawgs would have yet to use a reliever and had given up five total runs I’d have never thought they were in the losers’ side of the ledger. But on the bright side, the Red and Black have a fresh bullpen to deploy. Also, hopefully they won’t repeat last night’s, well, whatever adjective is the opposite of “clutch” performance at the plate. When you go 0 for 12 with runners on base and 0-3 with runners in scoring position you can’t really complain about a loss.
Texas got here by destroying Alabama, 14-2, in Monday’s elimination game, exploding for the most runs by a Texas team in a College World Series game since 1992. The star of the game for the Burnt Orange was Adrian Rodriguez, who hit for the cycle, making him just the third player to do so in CWS history.
The Longhorns scored in only four innings, but each time they plated at least three runs: three in the 1st, four in the 2nd and 6th and three in the 8th.
Georgia has to avoid giving up that kind of offensive explosion if they want to have a shot in this one. First pitch is scheduled for 8 PM Eastern, with television coverage again live on ESPN.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
