Students from North Springs High School earned national recognition from the Student Television Network for their work on North Springs News, the school’s weekly broadcast program.

The student-produced show received bronze Distinguished Merit Honors in STN’s Broadcast Excellence contest, which recognizes middle and high school programs that consistently produce high-quality shows.

The honor was announced during the 2026 STN Convention, and winning programs are featured on the STN website.

“We cover fun things like Spartan sports highlights, Spartan Game Show, music video covers, restaurant reviews, movie reviews, and important North Springs updates,” the show’s YouTube page says. “Our mission is to bring you closer to our creative and bright students and faculty.”

North Springs News entered in the Weekly Taped News Show category, which highlights polished weekly broadcasts, edited before airing. Schools submitted a single episode that originally aired during the 2025–2026 school year, showcasing student-produced work throughout the academic year.

Industry professionals evaluate entries in the Broadcast Excellence contest, scoring each submission and providing feedback based on STN’s standards of excellence.

North Springs is one of only nine high schools nationwide to earn bronze Distinguished Merit Honors in the category. Overall, 25 high schools across the United States received medals.

The following students created the award-winning episode of North Springs News: Aidan Bell, Marina Faleiro, Jaden Hawkins, Jaxon Hewitt, Zamien Koyi, Amyah-Marie Richardson, Niwaju Sasore, Jordyn Newsom, and Aviana Felts.

The students are part of the Audio-Video Technology and Film program at North Springs High School, led by AVTF teacher John Wilkerson.

“The recognition highlights the students’ creativity, collaboration, and technical skill in producing a professional-quality broadcast that keeps the school community informed each week,” Wilkerson said. “Since this is my first year teaching at North Springs, I’ve been encouraging my students to set the standard for the program, and they truly did. I’m looking forward to continued success.”
