Big changes are happening at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport!

A major expansion project is in progress to accommodate the growing number of passengers and flights in the region, marking the airport’s most significant upgrade since 2008.

Official construction began on August 14, 2024, but noticeable progress, including ground excavation, has become evident in recent weeks. This 25,000-square-foot addition is set to enhance the passenger experience by easing congestion and boosting the airport’s capacity to handle an additional 10,000 travelers daily. Currently serving over 4 million passengers annually, the expansion is a vital step in keeping pace with our area’s increasing demand for air travel.

• Additional Departure Gates: Four new gates will bring the total to 19, boosting capacity by 21%.
• Improved Amenities: New holding room space and restrooms are part of the upgrade.
• Temporary Gates: Six temporary gates are in place to support operations during construction.
