Georgia and South Carolina were locked in a sloppy, low scoring early season matchup in 2002, with the Bulldogs defense pitching a 3-0 shutout. Backed up on their own goal line the Gamecock offense managed to give up one more touchdown than the Garnet and Black defense would give up all day.
Pollack’s 0 yard interception return staked the Bulldogs to a 10-0 lead, and was the only touchdown the Bulldogs would score all day. But that and a pair of Billy Bennett field goals were enough to deliver a 13-7 victory. That Bulldog team would go on to win Georgia’s first SEC title in twenty years. Pollack’s improbable play was perhaps the first hint that the 2002 Bulldogs just wouldn’t be denied. Until later…
