Tuesday ‘Dawg Bites: Who Could Hang A Name On You?

A few years back, and mostly for my own amusement, I included an 80’s pop tune imbed to ‘Dawg Bites that was somewhat germane to the current state of the Georgia Bulldogs football team. As a formative decade in my life, I enjoyed finding some obscure and frankly pathetic music that was somehow popular at the time. I’m going to try something similar, but with a marked difference, in this 10th Year of our Coach Kirby Smart.

As my username implies, I like The Rolling Stones (comment or google if you’re unsure of the reference). So this season I’m attempting to include a ditty by the Greatest Rock ‘n Roll Band in the World (YMMV). There will be some Brian Jones, maybe some Mick Taylor, a little Bill Wyman, and certainly Ronnie Wood (hopefully some middle Georgian Chuck Leavell too). Ladies and gentlemen… The Rolling Stones!

(I know, I know, “Start Me Up” was the obvious choice. But it is Tuesday after all.)

Now onto news and notes of the Georgia Bulldog variety:

Marshall is returning to using a green helmet in 2025, but it appears as if they won’t use them in Athens Saturday afternoon. At least we will have some green on the field. And why don’t we have any SEC teams with green in their color scheme? There’s more than enough orange for… anybody. And how many shades of maroon are too many? I think we’ve reached that number. I say the next big SEC change is to swap some maroon and orange for green.

Georgia is the betting favorite to win the SEC, and currently favored to win every game on the schedule. Sure. I like this quote from the article:

bring back four of five starters on an offensive line that was among the nation’s best last season.

(I admit I coughed up a bit of my Bloody Mary green tea this morning reading that. )

Head Bulldog Kirby Smart held his first gameweek presser Monday. Just a few quotes early on that set the stage for the season:

“The game is about us. We have to go play our best. ” – in response to a question of Marshall.
“Start with yourself.”
“The opponent is “us”, as it will be every week this year. “ – No being hunted this year I guess.
“If you’re gonna play winning football, we wanna play you.” – in regards to depth chart and position battles.

He didn’t express any interest in the 2026 9 game SEC schedule issue, preferring to keep himself present. But when asked his preference on which 3 teams would be potential permanent rivals, he did hint that he is a traditionalist, grew up in Georgia, and believes historic rivalries are important. So…..

We won’t have access to the official injury report until later in the week, but Coach Smart did address a few players, notably punter Brett Thorson. Prognosis: eh, maybe.

Cash Jones and Jordan Hall were made available and answered a few questions. If you are wondering about the running back situation, here’s a nice piece about what we learned today with a few quotes.

You’ve likely heard Auburn is retiring the jersey of Cam Newton, the quarterback who is almost wholly responsible for the latest of Auburn’s 3 4 5 6 7 9 national championships. Between this and the newly discovered but century-old banner, it seems Prettiest Little Admins on the Plains were anxious to flood the wire and distract from the suboptimal practice field notes. I was aware, but not until today did I realize they would retire that No. 2 uniform when Georgia comes to town October 11. I don’t know how I feel about that. But I hope the sprinklers come on suddenly and with no purposeful human interaction whatsoever.

That should get your Ruby Tuesday started. Still, I’m going to miss you. And as always…

GO ‘DAWGS!!!
