Where does the Atlanta Braves payroll stand after recent signings?

The Braves have quietly been among the more active teams this offseason, which is to be expected given just how many holes they needed to fill.

Their first order of business was trading for Mauricio Dubon, followed by the re-signing of Raisel Iglesias. Atlanta then added Mike Yastrzemski to the outfield on a two-year deal, and yesterday completed their biggest move of the winter by signing Robert Suarez to a three-year, $45 million contract.

In total, those commitments will cost the Braves roughly $40 million in 2026 and bring their projected CBT payroll to $233 million. That figure currently ranks sixth in Major League Baseball but still sits $11 million below the first luxury tax threshold.

Prior to this year, the Braves were a luxury tax team in back-to-back seasons, so it’s reasonable to expect they’re willing to blow past the first threshold again. And if you take Braves chairman Terry McGuirk at his word about operating as a top-five payroll, the club still has a ways to go to reach that mark.

According to Spotrac, Atlanta’s current payroll allocations for 2026 sit at $227 million. That figure ranks second in the league at the moment, behind only the Dodgers, but there is still a significant amount of offseason left. Based on 2025 payroll totals, $227 million would have ranked seventh overall, with the top five beginning at roughly $255 million.

That feels like a fairly reasonable target, which would leave the Braves with approximately $25–30 million left to spend if necessary. Alex Anthopoulos isn’t the type of general manager to spend frivolously just because money is available, but there should be enough flexibility remaining for one more significant addition as Atlanta continues to monitor the markets for starting pitching and impact bats.
