Hurston Waldrep has returned from his rehab assignment and been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett — really just a procedural move. Losing Lara is an unfortunate roster casualty. The arm is incredible — capable of hitting triple digits with ease — but he simply hasn’t been able to find the strike zone, averaging 7.2 walks per nine innings over his minor-league career, including 17 walks per nine this season to go along with an 8.22 ERA.
At some point the Braves had to accept he wasn’t going to contribute at the major-league level anytime soon, and with injuries piling up, they needed the 40-man roster spot.
