It’s not exactly the type of signings fans have been anxiously waiting for — especially with the New York Mets going on a spending spree — but the Braves did add three players on minor-league deals this week: Tayler Scott, Tristin English, and Sean Reid-Foley.
Tayler Scott was abysmal in 2025, appearing in 24 games with the Astros and Diamondbacks and posting a 7.90 ERA. However, he was very effective for Houston in 2024, recording a 2.23 ERA over 62 appearances. His 4.13 FIP suggests he benefited from some good fortune that season, and it’s really the only year he’s enjoyed much success at the big-league level. Still, if you squint hard enough, there’s at least a chance he could provide some productive innings for the Braves in a pinch.
English is a 28-year-old who has appeared in just seven MLB games, but he owns a strong track record in Triple-A, hitting .292 with an .835 OPS over 288 games. Given his ability to play multiple positions — first base, third base, and the outfield — he profiles as solid organizational depth who could see time if injuries pile up.
The most intriguing of the trio, however, is Sean Reid-Foley. He’s a high-strikeout arm with a mid-90s fastball who appeared in 23 games for the Mets last season, posting a 1.66 ERA, 2.80 FIP, and 10.3 K/9. Control has always been the issue — he’s averaged 5.7 walks per nine innings over his big-league career — but if the Braves can help him rein that in, he could wind up providing some meaningful innings in 2026.
