According to the New York Post’s Mike Puma, former Braves reliever A.J. Minter will have season-ending surgery next Monday on a torn lat.

Losing A.J. Minter in free agency stung, and the Braves bullpen has certainly felt the effects of his absence. Losing him to the division rival Mets made it that much worse, especially considering his hot start to the season.
Minter appeared in 13 games for the Mets, recording a 1.64 ERA and striking out 11.5 batters per nine innings. He was dominant, and the hip injury that ended his 2024 campaign prematurely was a distant afterthought, making this news even more difficult to swallow.
The Mets might be the Braves biggest rival, and they also sit comfortably in first place to begin the season. I’ll never have a nice thing to say about them, but A.J. Minter was a damn good Brave through and through. He was Brian Snitker’s most reliable set-up man for a half-decade and pivotal to the Braves World Series run back in 2021. Beyond that, he never spoke anything but highly of the organization, even on his way out as he was set to join the Mets.
Pitcher injuries are undoubtedly the most unfortunate aspect of the game of baseball. A.J. Minter is now dealing with his second season-ending ordeal in as many years. Hopefully, he’ll make his way back the same way he did this time around, but it’s just an awful situation for a man that did so many great things for the Braves.
