Falcons: NFL insider links 3 teams and when to expect a Kirk Cousins trade

The NFL Draft begins tonight, and a perfect weekend would probably include drafting *multiple* starting-caliber, or better yet, impact defenders while also offloading Kirk Cousins and as much of his contract as possible.

The first part of that seems somewhat attainable, though I’m not sure how possible the latter one is right now. There are few suitors, and The Athletic’s Dianna Russini has linked three of them — the Browns, Steelers, and Vikings.

“The Browns, Steelers and possibly Vikings could be involved in a Cousins trade,” Russini writes.

Cleveland did sign Joe Flacco to a contract that was not insignificant and was laced with incentives. Pittsburgh has virtually no starting-caliber quarterback under contract, and Minnesota is likely rolling with J.J. McCarthy, which is why the last is least likely.

“Minnesota is looked at as the least likely scenario, given its preference for J.J. McCarthy and that Cousins would need to sign off on any trade he is involved in. It’s believed that Cousins would be against any trade that involves sending him to a situation involving a young QB, similar to the situation he faced in Atlanta last year,” Russini continued.

So, if the Browns or Steelers draft a quarterback tomorrow, I’m not sure where that leaves the Falcons and Kirk Cousins. If not, the Falcons could strike a deal with one as soon as Saturday, Russini added.
