One of the most intriguing aspects of the Falcons’ initial 53-man roster was the inclusion of Billy Bowman Jr. The second-year cornerback suffered a torn Achilles during his promising rookie campaign, and it seemed likely that he would begin this season on the IR.
That doesn’t appear to be the case based on the Falcons’ roster decisions, and even more so, he was spotted at practice for the first time on Thursday.
It would still be fairly shocking if we saw Bowman strap it up and play much during the Falcons’ Week 1 matchup against the Steelers, but he’s clearly not too far off, which is going to be a massive boost to a secondary that could be the story of the Falcons’ 2026 season — much like the pass rush was a year ago.
A.J. Terrell, Mike Hughes, Avieon Terrell, and Billy Bowman Jr. are a really quality group of top cornerbacks with a nice blend of experience and youth. Then on the back end, there are Jessie Bates III and Xavier Watts, who have the potential to be the best safety duo in the league this season. Even DeMarcco Hellams is a quality third safety option, and Bowman Jr. also has experience at the position.
This group could surprise a lot of people across the league this season who aren’t in tune with the Falcons’ roster.
