An unexpected connection

???????? Don’t miss an exhibit about the Jewish people who resettled in Shanghai, China, from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Russia: “Hidden History: Recounting the Shanghai Jewish Experience at the Breman.

In the 1930s, Shanghai was the hub of China’s international trade. By 1938, the fourth largest city in the world had 17,000 Jewish refugees. Shanghai required no entry visa, therefore becoming one of the only options for German and Austrian Jews trying to escape the Holocaust.

✔ The Aug. 24 event with Temple Emanu-El, Asian Arts Alliance, and Chinese Community in Atlanta is sold out. Catch the self-guided exhibit until Oct. 13.

Why did Trump cut hundreds of grants for Holocaust history and Yiddish culture?

???? The Klezmer Institute – along with hundreds of other NEH projects – all received the same form letter terminating their grants, saying that their projects did not assist in “the furtherance of the President’s agenda” and that the funds would be redistributed to work that was more aligned with Trump’s goals.
