Lauren Locke announced her campaign for the District 2 Sandy Springs City Council seat.
Her reasons for seeking the council seat include a desire to help reclaim, revitalize, and reimagine what’s possible in the north end of the city. Locke wants to incorporate natural assets, such as the river and the surrounding landscape, into the city’s future growth. She plans to work to bring new businesses to the community and to work closely with law enforcement and firefighters to reduce crime and improve public safety.
Locke is seeking the seat currently held by Melody Kelley, who has not formally declared she will run for reelection.
Locke, the chief operating officer of Cornerstone Advisors Group, a wealth management group, is also a licensed sports medicine personal trainer. A 25-year Sandy Springs resident, she formerly owned a yoga and barre studio in Sandy Springs and still occasionally teaches hot barre classes.
Locke was born on Fort Sam Houston military base in Texas and comes from a long line of military members. She is a supporter of active and retired military personnel.
Locke grew up in Peachtree Corners Circle and graduated from Norcross High School. She graduated from Georgia State University, where she majored in journalism with a minor in psychology. Locke was a member of AOII fraternity and now serves as an advisor. In her neighborhood she chairs the sidewalk committee and has served as treasurer of the HOA. Locke said she also led an effort to bury power lines in her community.
Locke volunteers at the recycling center and with her kids’ organizations, Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) and National Charities League (NCL).
Her 25 years of dance experience helped Locke land a spot in the 1996 Olympics ceremonies and at the Super Bowl XXXIII halftime show in 1999.
Locke belongs to the Greater Perimeter Chamber and volunteers at organizations including the Community Assistance Center and the Chattahoochee Nature Center.
Her two children attended Queen of Angels and now Blessed Trinity Catholic High School, where they play football and volleyball, and grew up playing and riding bikes at Morgan Falls Park, Riverside Park, and Azalea Park.
Locke’s family also sponsors two children in Tanzania through the Ubora Foundation, according to her announcement.
