Students across metro Atlanta will head back to classrooms next week as the region’s largest public school districts begin the 2026-27 academic year.
Schools in Fulton County, DeKalb County, City Schools of Decatur, and Atlanta Public Schools will open Monday, Aug. 3, with teachers and staff wrapping up professional development and open house events this week.
Gwinnett County Public Schools, the state’s largest district, will begin classes Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Atlanta Public Schools will host a series of open houses for elementary, middle, and high school students on Friday, July 31. The annual “Back to School Bash” will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
DeKalb County Schools have been holding open house events this week, and announced “Curriculum Nights” at the end of August and beginning of September to introduce families to new district resources, safety procedures, student initiatives and more.
Fulton County Schools has set up a new portal with a “know before you go” section for students and parents.
City Schools of Decatur is hosting a series of meet-and-greets today, July 30, and Friday, July 31, ahead of classes resuming on Aug. 3.
Gwinnett Schools have created a back-to-school guide for parents and students with information on enrollment, school lunches, transportation, and more.
