Dr. Del Anderson wants to bring heart and soul to Tucker’s Main Street with the goal of creating community with animals and their owners.

Anderson is launching Heart and Soul Veterinary Care, a full-service business at 2232 Main St., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 8, followed by an open house on Aug. 9 featuring tours, games, raffles, giveaways, food, music, and of course, treats for its most important guests – the four-legged kind.

The opportunity for engagement is one of the reasons that Snellville-born Anderson, a graduate of Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, wanted to move to Main Street.

“Main Street has such a community feel to it and it seemed like a perfect fit for us,” he said. “In talking to people, we learned that there is a need for more vet services in the city, and that a lot of people were taking their pets outside Tucker for their care.”

The inspiration for the clinic’s name has a musical connection, after a Sirius station that plays Motown and jazz music.

The 2,500-square-foot space contains four exam rooms, enough to expand with another vet when demand increases. Right now, Anderson will be the only practitioner along with several tech vets.

But he is already working to start a mentorship program, fueling his passion for guiding new graduates and others interested in the field of veterinary medicine.

“At previous jobs, I worked as a medical director and became very interested in community engagement, and I want to continue doing that in my family practice,” Anderson said.

The clinic will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Anderson is hoping to expand its hours to seven days a week for increased accessibility. He said his mini labradoodle named Hepburn will also be present on site at times.

The Aug. 9 event, to be held from 12-4 p.m., will also include pets for adoption from Little Lives Animal Rescue and staff from Perc Coffee will be offering pup cups to its four-legged visitors. Representatives from Furbusters, a dog-grooming business located down the street will also be on hand during the day.

Those wishing to make an appointment can call  (770) 634-8733 or book an appointment online after the clinic officially opens.
