On Aug. 27, a new program called “Playfully Perimeter” will launch an immersive event to showcase the districts’ amenities to professionals, residents and visitors to the area.
In collaboration with Explore Brookhaven, Discover Dunwoody, and Visit Sandy Springs, the Playfully Perimeter series “aims to expand awareness of Perimeter and highlight its continuous growth and new developments,” according to a release about the initiative.
“It will include three immersive events between August and December that will leverage the area’s mixed-use developments, cultural centers and pedestrian activity zones,” the release said. “Each event will offer interactive activations, from hands-on activities to food tastings and art installations. “
Perimeter Center Improvement District Executive Director Ann Hanlon told Rough Draft the initiative is an extension of the group’s efforts since 1999 to keep property values high and showcase that the area is “safe, clean and vibrant.”
“We’ve been hyper-focused on infrastructure and traffic improvements, but now we are looking to growing and expanding our horizons,” Hanlon said. “COVID has changed the office landscape, and people are looking for the whole experience. We are deliberately investing in building our community.”
A gathering called Envision Perimeter in May was the kick-off event for the initiative, Hanlon said. The summit, themed “Every Piece in Place,” was designed to bring regional leaders, business, civic and community stakeholders to chart a shared vision for Perimeter’s continued growth and transformation.
The August event, which is called Play It Cool, will take place on the Green at Perimeter Summit on Aug. 27 from 3-7 p.m. According to the release.
“The event taps into the nostalgia of childhood field days by including active games such as a sack race and pickleball, oversized yard games like Jenga and Connect 4, and music-based experiences such as a hula hoop contest and limbo,” it said.
Play It Cool is free to the public, but registration is required. Hanlon said she hopes the first event draws about 200 people.
The next Playfully Perimeter series will be held in October with a culinary-based experience and in November/December with a holiday art installation. Hanlon said the PCID is working to coordinate its holiday efforts with Dunwoody officials.
Local artists, makers, food vendors, and cultural organizations are invited to be part of the series. Interested vendors can reach out to Jordyn Jones
