Despite a couple of wins over the last two weeks, it still feels like some major changes could be coming to the Atlanta Falcons once the season ends next Sunday.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported last week that a consulting firm, Sportsology, has been inside the building in Flowery Branch for the last several weeks performing a “health check” of the organization. NFL insider James Palmer also added that everything from general manager Terry Fontenot on down is being evaluated.
From a results perspective, there is absolutely no reason Fontenot or Raheem Morris should keep their jobs. Fontenot has been in charge of the organization for five seasons, overseeing a grand total of zero winning years, let alone a postseason berth. The Falcons do not appear any closer to finding their franchise quarterback, were eliminated from playoff contention by Thanksgiving, and don’t even own a first-round pick in 2026. Those are not glowing endorsements for the job he’s done.
Morris has only been the head coach for two seasons, and while Arthur Blank typically prefers to give his coaches more time, the Falcons collapsed to end last season after starting 6-3 and then lost seven of eight games in the middle of this year. Morris whiffed on all three of his initial coordinator hires, and this team has consistently failed on the margins, costing them a slew of tight games that could have changed his fate.
Nothing is written in stone just yet. Perhaps things could shift with a strong finish over the final two weeks, but as of now, it certainly feels like change is coming, with one of the most intriguing reports coming from Jay Glazer on Sunday, who says the Falcons are considering Matt Ryan for a “significant” role in the team’s front office.
Scoopage: Atlanta Falcons have had conversations with their former Pro Bowl QB Matt Ryan about rejoining the Falcons in a front office role. While two sides still discussing, people close to Ryan say he’s seriously considering this move and talks are ongoing. It would be for a…

Matt Ryan is undoubtedly the franchise’s greatest player, and he’s also been a star for CBS since his retirement. Whatever avenue he’s chosen, he’s thrived, which makes the possibility of him rejoining the organization intriguing.
That said, great players don’t always make great coaches or great front office personnel. There are countless examples throughout sports of Hall of Fame talents failing in those roles, none more infamous than Michael Jordan, who drove the Charlotte Hornets into such a deep hole they still haven’t escaped.
From a PR perspective — which, frankly, seems to be all the Falcons really care about, because they certainly aren’t focused on winning football games — Matt Ryan would be welcomed back to Flowery Branch with open arms. Whether he would actually be successful in getting Atlanta back to the playoffs, though, might be nothing more than wishful thinking.
