After working his way back from internal brace surgery, Spencer Strider pulled his hamstring while playing long toss just one start into his return. It was a brutal blow for the Braves ace, but it seems he’s on the cusp of a return.
According to Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Strider received a PPP injection, not to be confused with a PPP loan, after suffering the hamstring strain, which helped speed up the process of his return. Brian Snitker said that he’ll have a bullpen session Saturday and then will determine whether or not he needs a rehab start.
Spencer Strider received a PPP injection after suffering the hamstring strain. He said that helped speed up the process of it feeling back to full strength. Snit said they’ll decide after Strider’s Saturday bullpen if he’ll need a rehab start or not.

If everything goes well, it seems Spencer Strider could join the major league club as soon as next week. If it were up to him, Strider would be back as soon as possible, but he noted that it’s not his call.
Spencer Strider’s bullpen went well on Wednesday. He’ll throw one on Saturday. In his deal world, it seems he’d like to be in the majors as soon as possible — but said that’s not his call. He seems to feel he’s ready though.

The Braves rotation has actually had several arms step up in Strider’s absence. Bryce Elder has had three quality outings in a row. Grant Holmes, outside of a hiccup last night against the Reds, has been steady. A.J. Smith-Shawver has seemingly turned the corner, coming off a start in which he carried a no-hitter into the 8th inning. On top of that, Chris Sale has a sub-2.00 ERA across his last four starts.
When Strider returns, Brian Snitker and Alex Anthopoulos will have a decision to make — option Elder or AJSS to Triple-A Gwinnett or roll with a six-man rotation. I’d say a six-man rotation is the best path forward, given the injury concerns with multiple starters.
