It’s early National Signing Day, the day when college football fans across the nation dream of victories tomorrow secured by the blue chip prospects of today.
Where We Stand
Yesterday wasn’t a great day for Georgia football recruiting as Nashville quarterback Jared Curtis announced that he’s flipping his commitment from the ‘Dawgs to the hometown Vanderbilt Commodores. That dropped the Red and Black from the #3 rated class in 247Sports’ rankings to #7.
The Bulldogs also lost the nation’a top JUCO prospect, offensive tackle Jarmaine Mitchell, who flipped to Arizona State.
The Bulldogs still have 28 prospects committed in this class. While the math is a little bit of a guess, my estimate is that Georgia has room to sign 30 to 31 players in this class. That total is based on the number of seniors and draft-eligible juniors on Georgia’s roster, as well as projected transfer portal entrants.
Where We’re Going
Who are the additional 2-3 prospects the Bulldogs sign? Hard to say. If past years are any guide some probably are not on anyone’s radar.
One possibility is four star offensive lineman Tyreek Jemison. The 6’5, 315 pound standout from Paulding County High had been committed to Kentucky, but decommitted in October and has been a hot commodity since. He’ll announce his decision at 8:30 this morning.
Another possible option is Benedictine (Savannah) edge rusher LaDamion Guyton. The five star defender is rated the #2 player in the state and #15 player in America by 247, but has been committed to Texas Tech since August, reportedly due in part to a monumental NIL package. Flipping him would be a tall order, but never count Kirby Smart out until they sign on the line that is dotted.
If history is any guide we should also see at least one player committed elsewhere flip to Georgia, what I call the ““George Pickens.” Those commits are among the hardest to predict, though I think there are a handful of players committed to SEC schools with new coaching staffs who may jump rather than giving the new guys a chance.
The one thing I am fairly confident of is that we’ll also get at least one announcement from a player for the class of 2027. I have some suspects in mind, but let’s just let those play out how they will, shall we?
We’ll be here all day to update the commitment list as the signings become official, as well as providing news and analysis along the way. This thread will be home base for discussing any breaking news, rumors, and general observations as the day progresses.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
