Spruill Center for the Arts’ Artistic Affair on March 28 broke records with $135,000 garnered at the auction.

Last year’s event raised more than $110,000, including $17,500 in scholarship funds for Spruill’s art camps and courses.
Harkening back to the first-ever Artistic Affair, this year’s event featured a 1980s theme, including arcade games, a throw-back photo booth, costume contests, an opportunity to collaborate in the creation of a mural led by Graffiti Class ATL founder Malcolm Turpin, as well as live painter Leslie Cannon, who created an original work on-site that was auctioned off that evening.
“We are so thankful for the incredible community support in making this our best Artistic Affair ever. It must have been the pervasive ‘tubular’ ’80s vibe from the décor and costumes of our guests that led to record years from both our silent auction of students and instructor creations, packages from our community partners, and our live auction,” said Spruill CEO Alan Mothner.

At last year’s event, Spruill introduced a new logo as part of its 50th anniversary celebration.
Spruill, a non-profit organization based in Dunwoody, aims at fostering creativity and social connections through the arts. The Spruill Education Center offers 300 classes and workshops each quarter for all ages and skill levels through its 17 dedicated studio spaces and features a variety of community-based programs.
The organization announced on Feb. 9 its plans to open Spruill Studios, a new facility in the former Chamblee City Hall, focused on providing affordable creative space for artists in metro Atlanta.
Set to open in June, Spruill Studios will be housed at 5468 Peachtree Road in the heart of downtown Chamblee. Spruill officials started accepting applications from artists interested in studio spots on March 9.
