In a way, Georgia is playing up this whole “White Out” concept perfectly.

In encouraging fans to wear white against Western Kentucky, the Bulldogs may be in line to use the Western Kentucky game as a perfect tune up for the Oklahoma game.

But while Kirby and company focus on that, Georgia fans will be trying to defeat one of the longest odds of the tailgate scene across the American South.

BBQ vs. Clothing.

After all, Tim McGraw was not exaggerating it when he sang the line about ‘a BBQ stain on my white t-shirt.“

It’s almost a fact of life – if you have a light-colored shirt on during your tailgate, odds are very good that you may as well be wearing a magnet attracting anything with sauce on it to make its way to tarnish your game day attire. It’s a scientific fact. I can’t prove that, but just take our word for it.

Then again, when you are a purveyor of BBQ like many of us are, you just accept the loss of a handful of pulled pork as part of the experience…as long as your favorite game day shirt is not ruined.

It could be worse. Georgia could be dealing with another type of white out…

So, if you have hard Georgia baseball broadcasts, you have an idea of what Georgia’s football broadcasts will be with Jeff Dantzler on the call. And if you have heard his post-game call-in alongside Kevin Butler, you have an even better idea.

And though the GameDay broadcast likely won’t have an impromptu call-in by “Macho Man,” there is a tease of what to expect on Saturdays…

In this NIL era, Georgia’s approach still looks to be spending what it needs to do what it wants, and not gashing open Scrooge McDuck’s vault for the sake of doing so.

It’s obviously a thin line. At some point, a breaking line will arrive. And once fans are tapped out enough, it’s hard to get them to come back. And they don’t forget the reasons that they chose to leave – see NASCAR.

For now, UGA’s mindset appears to be spending what it needs and not doing so for the sake of outspending just to say it did it. That works well for now, but if another year or two comes and goes minus a CFP win for this program, the NIL well may be tapped again…as long as there’s enough kicked in time after time of asking.

Go Dawgs!
