This is the first in a new series known as the Morning Memory, in which we help you get your day off to a roaring start by showcasing a classic Georgia Bulldog highlight of years gone by. Today, Mr. Tuberville may have gone to Washington. But Mr. Thurman is the one who actually won the race.
Auburn came into Sanford Stadium in November 2003 looking to spoil #6 Georgia’s SEC title aspirations.
As has so often been the case in the ensuing two decades, it didn’t turn out well for the Plainsmen. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 19-0 lead on Tommy Tuberville’s torpid Tigers.
But early in the fourth quarter Auburn was still looking to put points on the board deep in Bulldog territory. But instead quarterback Jason Campbell’s third-down pass into the end zone was tipped and caught by linebacker Odell Thurman. The rest is pure Barner burning magic:
There’s so much to admire about this play. The blindside pressure to force Campbell’s throw. Thurman’s ahoestring grab. Tim Jennings flying down the field like he’s on rocket skates to throw the final block. Cinema. Absolute cinema.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
