The Falcons wasted no time cleaning house, firing both Raheem Morris and Terry Fontenot just mere hours after their Week 18 victory over the Saints, a sign that this had been in the works for weeks. Reports initially surged that Atlanta already had its top targets picked out for both positions, but a wrench was thrown into those plans when the Ravens lost to the Steelers on Sunday night, eliminating them from playoff contention.
That domino led to John Harbaugh being fired after 18 seasons in Baltimore, instantly placing him at or near the top of every team’s wish list with a head coaching vacancy, including the Falcons.
However, teams that plan to aggressively pursue the future Hall of Fame head coach are going to have to be patient. According to Dianna Russini, Harbaugh plans to take some time before beginning the interview process.
Teams that have expressed interest in former Ravens’ HC John Harbaugh have been informed that he plans to take some time to collect his thoughts and plan before beginning interviews next week, sources say. @AdamSchefter reported too.
It appears nothing has been set yet.

Now, Harbaugh is 63 years old and has been doing this a long time. He spent nearly two decades with the Ravens, delivering six division titles and a Super Bowl. It’s normal for him to want to collect his thoughts, and he knows there will be plenty of jobs waiting for him whenever he’s ready.
But there’s also another thing to consider — the results of this week’s Wild Card round. There are several teams with current head coaches in the playoffs that could move off their guy now that Harbaugh is available. The Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers are two that immediately come to mind.
So, while Russini’s report might come off as Harbaugh wanting to take some time off, the reality is he’s probably waiting to see if an opportunity arises where he can move from one MVP-caliber quarterback to the next in Buffalo. That’s something I would be very worried about if I were a Falcons fan hoping for John Harbaugh and watching the Wild Card round this weekend.
