Dawgs in the NFL: Big time players make big time plays

I hope everyone is still enjoying Georgia’s ninth straight rivalry victory over Awwwburn this past Saturday. The game was, of course, defined by incredibly clean football and flawless officiating by the referees. In fact, the referees were so accurate that this game should probably be shown to referees in training as the gold standard of non-controversial officiating…

Nah, just kidding (I’m confident that several Dawg fans laughed like this at the end of the game, though).

Moving on, this past week’s slate of NFL games featured some late-game thrillers and international sleepers (looking at you, Broncos and Jets). Some of our favorite Dawgs from the past made big-time plays to help their teams win their games.

Former running back and current Chicago Bear D’Andre Swift had an impressive performance on Monday Night Football, leading da Bears in both rushing (108) and receiving (67) yards. His biggest play came in the fourth quarter when he caught a Caleb Williams pass and turned it into a 55-yard touchdown.

It’s pretty poetic that two days after Georgia and Auburn faced each other, Swift would score a long touchdown, allowing Dawg (and Tiger) fans to reminisce about his game-sealing touchdown run in the 2017 SEC Championship game. Good times.

Swift also played a big role on Chicago’s final drive of the day, helping them kick a game-winning field goal to take down the Washington Commanders 25-24 in D.C.

L.A. Chargers’ wide receiver Ladd McConkey, who is also no stranger to scoring a long touchdown against Auburn, had an impressive day against the Miami Dolphins. He caught seven passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. None of his seven passes were bigger than the one he caught on a 2nd and 10 with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Justin Herbert somehow avoided the Dolphins’ pass rush to make an incredible throw to the speedy McConkey, who took it 42 yards to ultimately set up the game-winning field goal.

The Chargers defeated the Dolphins 29-27.

Though his Dallas Cowboys did not get the win over the Carolina Panthers, George Pickens had another monster game. He led the team with 168 receiving yards and a touchdown pass. The former Bulldog has proven to be a top receiving threat for Dak Prescott, who I’m sure would be very happy if Jerry Jones decides to bring him back next season.

That’s all for this week. Tune in next time to hear more about the adventures of your favorite former Dawgs in the land of the pros. Until then…

Go Dawgs!!
