Make Atlanta History

Do you want to be immortalized in print and become part of Atlanta history? Legendary Cheshire Bridge restaurant The Colonnade and Atlanta reporter and author Richard L. Eldredge are partnering with Ardmore Avenue Publishing to create a commemorative book celebrating the beloved Southern food institution’s 100th anniversary in 2027. Storytelling sessions will be held throughout the next year at The Colonnade, inviting people to regale their tales for possible inclusion in the book. The first session takes place on Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. at The Colonnade. People can also join the Facebook group “Memories of Atlanta’s Colonnade.”

Restaurant Openings

Nearly a year after announcing their intention to open La Bodega, Ken Katz and Jeannette Flores-Katz opened the Salvadoran market and pupuseria on Sylvan Road in Sylvan Hills last week. Previously located at The Met in Adair Park, La Bodega expands in Sylvan Hills, serving pupusas, sandwiches, and hot dishes, and will eventually include a small market selling fresh produce and pantry items. Read more about the couple’s plans here

The owners of Southbound in Chamblee recently opened The Harvey on Peachtree Road. The sports bar features a rooftop patio and a menu with pizza, wings, corn dogs, and burgers.

Cocktail lounge and tasting restaurant Truth Be Told opened in the former Rice Thai restaurant space on Canton Street in downtown Roswell. Reservations are open for the prix fixe menu, while walk-ins are available at the bar for à la carte food.

Another location of Jinya Ramen Bar opens Aug. 4, this time in Roswell. Located on Alpharetta Street in downtown Roswell, Jinya will offer the first 100 guests during the grand opening free ramen on their next visit.

The third location of soft serve ice cream shop Big Softie, from Little Tart Bakeshop owner Sarah O’Brien, will open soon near 3 Parks Wine Shop and the Forth Hotel in the Old Fourth Ward. Located on North Angier Avenue, Big Softie becomes the latest addition to the New City development taking shape along the Eastside Beltline. The owners behind Lucian Books and Wine will open Sargent next spring beside 3 Parks Wine Shop at the complex.

News to Know

Following a move to Macon last year, popular Irwin Street Market stall Yay! Beignet will apparently return to Atlanta. Although it’s unclear when and where Yay! Beignet will open, and what will be on the menu beyond beignets and Ethiopian coffee drinks. The Macon location featured a smattering of both Cajun and Ethiopian dishes. Stay tuned!

The drive-through window at DBA Tacos and BBQ in Clarkston is now open on East Ponce de Leon Avenue. People can order online to pick up the restaurant’s full food menu at the drive-through, including street tacos, brisket and pulled pork plates, sandwiches, and DBA’s Brunswick stew.
