It’s 6:00 am Athens standard time. Have you hated the Florida Gators today?

If not, what exactly are you waiting for?

It’s the hatingest week of college football season for those of us in the very specific demographic of “UGA fans raised below the gnat line in the 1990s and who consequently enjoy wiping that smug smile off Steve Spurrier’s smug face.”

It’s Florida week. And I hate those guys.

The Bulldogs will be traveling up to Atlanta rather than down to Jacksonville to review hostilities with the Gators this year. The Florida Times Union has a rundown of what fans going up for the game can expect. That seems fair, given that Gator fans don’t really have a lot of experience traveling to the Benz for SEC Championship games.

Georgia opens as a 10.5 point favorite over the Saurians, who have been one of the most unpredictable teams in America this season. That’s borne out in the Gators’ midseason report card from the staff at Swamp247. The Lizards have looked really, really good when they’ve looked good. But they’ve also looked really bad at times. Offensively they have struggled to run the ball against physical front sevens. Defensively, they’ve struggled in the secondary. Like Georgia, a lot of their effectiveness has hinged on who is available to play in any given week. But then, that’s just been life for everyone in the SEC this season.

On the recruiting trail, Georgia picked up a pledge Sunday from a fast-rising 2027 quarterback who is no stranger to bright lights on or off the field. Bo Bryan, the son of country music star and rabid Bulldog fan Luke Bryan picked the Bulldogs over offers from, well, not a lot of elite teams. Bryan’s other publicly reported offers were from North Alabama, UT-Martin, and Austin Peay. The 6’1, 200 pound senior took over at Nashville’s Battle Ground Academy this season, playing under well-known high school coach Bobby Bentley.

In his first and only year as a starter Bryan has completed 73.5% of his passes for 2006 yards, 30 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. In short, he takes care of the football but can air it out when he needs to. That’s the kind of thing Mike Bobo loves. Also, Bryan has been a diehard Bulldog fan since he could walk, and probably doesn’t need a big NIL commitment. Can’t hurt in this day and time, right?

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
