A lot of Falcons fans were hoping the team would finally land the biggest fish in the entire coaching pool. This year, that was the recently fired John Harbaugh. Multiple reports suggested Atlanta was among the “favorites” to land him, but it now looks like they won’t even get an interview.
According to Adam Schefter, Harbaugh is set to become the next head coach of the New York Giants, barring any setback.
John Harbaugh and the Giants are working to finalize an agreement to make him New York’s next head coach and, barring a setback, a deal is expected, multiple sources tell ESPN.

It would be nothing short of shocking if there were any sort of setback. Harbaugh always seemed to have his eye on New York, and the Giants quite literally bent over backwards in their attempt to get him. While the Falcons might have had serious interest, it certainly wasn’t as forthright as New York’s.
Given the Falcons’ current standing in the NFL, boasting the second-longest postseason drought of any team, they aren’t in any position to thumb their noses at a future Hall of Fame coach like John Harbaugh. With that being said, there are a lot of intriguing candidates, and the success Harbaugh had in Baltimore wasn’t going to automatically carry over to Atlanta — unless Lamar Jackson was coming with him.
It could end up being a blessing in disguise for the Falcons that it worked out this way.
