At 2-2, the Atlanta Falcons have to feel pretty good about where they stand heading into a primetime matchup with the Buffalo Bills. The team is coming off its most complete performance of the season, and the bye week should have them as healthy as they’ve been all year.
The biggest name to monitor this week is A.J. Terrell. The star cornerback suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2 and has missed the last two games. Getting him back on the field against one of the league’s most explosive offenses could be the difference between moving above .500 for the first time this season or falling below it once again.
Offensive tackle Storm Norton is another name to watch in the coming weeks. He underwent ankle surgery right before the start of the season and was expected to be the Falcons’ starting right tackle after Kaleb McGary’s season-ending injury. However, his role may not be guaranteed upon return, as Elijah Wilkinson has stepped in and exceeded expectations in his absence.
Linebacker Troy Andersen is also eligible to return after starting the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, which kept him sidelined for the first four games. His potential role remains unclear, but his athleticism and versatility could still prove valuable.
Divine Deablo, one of the Falcons’ top free-agent additions this offseason, has arguably been the team’s best defensive player through four games, while Kaden Elliss has been steady as ever. Neither player is in danger of losing reps, but Andersen’s return could provide a much-needed boost to the special teams unit — an area where Atlanta has been inconsistent so far this year.
All things considered, the Falcons are trending in the right direction. With key players returning and the roster getting healthier, Monday night’s matchup in Buffalo will serve as an early test of how high this team’s ceiling really is.
