The top Diamond Dawg received a contract extension through 2032. He’ll also get a rise that hasn’t been disclosed yet (he was earning &1.35 million per year previously).
In three seasons in Athens Johnson has turned around a once proud program that was struggling to build momentum. He’s led the Bulldogs to 139 overall wins, three NCAA Tournaments as a national top eight seed, played host to three NCAA Regionals and two NCAA Super Regionals and advanced to the 2026 College World Series.
The 2026 Dawgs secured a school record 53 victories, made their seventh all-time appearance at the College World Series in Omaha, and had a final national ranking of #3. And for the second time in three seasons Georgia had a player win the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award, the top awards in college baseball and for an amateur player nationwide. In 2024, third baseman/outfielder Charlie Condon swept these major awards while last year, it was catcher Daniel Jackson.Both would go on to be first round MLB draft picks.
Johnson has also secured one of the top transfer portal hauls in the nation for 2027, as well as several prominent high school recruits. The new deal is a nod to the trajectory of the program, which appears set to compete in the SEC and nationally at an elite level on a yearly basis.
