The Hawks are big game hunting in their front office, and in their search for a star to pair with Trae Young. Might the new President of Basketball Operations see Giannis Antetokounmpo as that trophy fish?
Well, Vegas doesn’t see it as very likely. Oddsmakers don’t see Atlanta even on Giannis’ radar. His next team odds suggest running it back with the Bucks is most likely, with Milwaukee as the favorites, sitting at -200, followed by the Warriors (+900), Rockets (+950), Spurs (+1200), Lakers (+1600), Nets (+1600), and Thunder (+1600).
Brand new odds from @DKSportsbook on where Giannis Antetokounmpo will be playing next season:
Bucks: -200
Warriors: +900
Rockets: +950
Spurs: +1200
Lakers: +1600
Nets: +1600
Thunder: +1600What Giannis decides to do with his future will be this summer’s biggest NBA domino. pic.twitter.com/7vD48C3Dh8

Obviously, this doesn’t take the Hawks out of the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes, but I actually think that whoever Tony Ressler hires to lead the front office will have the biggest impact on whether the club targets Giannis, Kevin Durant or any other superstar.
If it’s someone like Bob Myers, who the Hawks have reportedly targeted, I imagine Ressler will finally take a back seat in basketball decisions because of Myers’ track record of being a championship-winning executive.
However, if it’s a relatively unproven exec, Ressler will still be butting into basketball decisions, which I honestly believe makes it more likely the Hawks acquire a superstar.
Just think back to the end of Travis Schlenk’s tenure. The Hawks were in talks with the Spurs for a Dejounte Murray trade, but Atlanta’s GM advised ownership against it because the asking price was far too high. The Resslers didn’t care and forced the issue.
Schlenk eventually stepped down, the Murray deal was an unmitigated disaster, and if it weren’t for Landry Fields’ savvy trade with the Pelicans, this franchise could be in one of the worst spots in the NBA.
